What's at stake?

The Crew have not only survived but thrived thanks to a fan-led "Save the Crew" movement that culminated with the Haslam family and a new crop of owners taking over and ensuring the club would stay in Columbus. Now, the club finds itself back in MLS Cup with a deep and talented roster looking built to contend for the foreseeable future and has a state-of-the-art new stadium in downtown Columbus scheduled to open in 2021. A title this season would be a fairytale conclusion for a fan base that has a deep love and connection to this team.

For Seattle, it's a chance to enter rarified company. A win on Saturday would give the Sounders a third title in five years, which is the stuff of dynasties and would see Brian Schmetzer's group stake a claim as the dominant club of this era in MLS. You could still make the argument for Seattle as a dynasty even with a defeat, given their run of 12 straight playoff appearances, four US Open Cup titles, a Supporters' Shield and the two MLS Cups that are already in the bag, but a win would make it undeniable.
