Houston Dynamo 1, Columbus Crew SC 1 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

Memo Rodriguez scored his fifth goal of the season and his second in as many games, but the Houston Dynamo were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Columbus Crew SC on Saturday night at BBVA Stadium.

Columbus equalized through a Victor Cabrera own goal, which came before the Crew had managed a single shot on target of their own in a disjointed interconference encounter.

While the draw saw the Crew maintain their third place standing in the East, it was a missed opportunity for the Dynamo to move closer to the playoff line in the West as they now sit three points out.

Crew goalkeeper Eloy Room finished with five saves in the draw, on a night Houston led 24-8 in shots and 6-1 in efforts on target. But the Crew did enough to snap their three-match losing skid at BBVA and earn just their 10th point in 14 all-time trips to Houston in league play.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: This may feel like two points dropped more than a point gained for both clubs. With Toronto FC routed by the Philadelphia Union earlier Saturday, Columbus missed an opportunity to climb within four points of both clubs in the chase for the Supporters' Shield, with a match in hand on both. Houston have now won just once in their last 11 matches, and a draw ensured they will remain beneath the Western Conference playoff line through the end of Week 20.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Room may regret giving up a rebound following his initial reaction save, but Memo Rodriguez thoroughly deserved this goal for his first-half efforts.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Memo Rodriguez. He was the most consistently lively player of the opening 45 minutes. A knock he appeared to pick up while scoring may have contributed to his 60th-minute exit.
