Jeremy Ebobisse celebrates vs. LA Galaxy - Oct. 7, 2020

NEW YORK
(Thursday, October 8, 2020)
– Portland Timbers forward Jeremy Ebobisse was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for the 16
th
week of the 2020 MLS season.
Ebobisse led the Portland Timbers to a 6-3 win over the LA Galaxy on Wednesday at Dignity Health Sports Park, where he notched two goals for the second time in his MLS career. Ebobisse now has seven goals and two assists on the season and is tied for seventh in the race to the Golden Boot presented by Audi. The Portland Timbers rank second in the Western Conference standings with 27 points (9-3-3).
With Portland already up 1-0, Ebobisse added some insurance in the 23
rd
minute after lining up adjacent to Diego Valeri for a set piece. As Valeri approached the ball, Ebobisse came in from the other side with a powerful left-footed strike that cruised over the wall and into the back of the net for the 2-0 Timbers lead (

st
overall in his professional career.
The 23-year-old followed it up with combination play in the box in the 80
th
minute when he finished off a one-two, triangle passing sequence from close range for the sixth and final goal of the match, which tied a club single-game scoring record (

With this result, Portland has won its last four straight games to tie the second-longest winning streak in club history, as the Timbers remain undefeated in their last five.
Portland returns to action this Sunday when hosting the San Jose Earthquakes (10 p.m. ET, ESPN+/ FOX 12 Plus (KPDX) · NBC Sports California).
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
