Cristian Pavon, Diego Rossi among 16 MLS players named to 2022 World Cup qualifying squads

With the 2022 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers just around the corner, the South American countries facing off to earn berths to the Qatar tournament have started to name their preliminary rosters, with several MLS players on the lists.


Cristian Pavon, who is in fine form for the LA Galaxy, was among the names on Argentina's roster.

Pavon's El Trafico rivals Diego Rossi and Brian Rodriguez of LAFC were both named to Uruguay's preliminary roster.

Finally, seven Venezuelans were also named, as the Galaxy's Rolf Feltscher, D.C. United midfielder Junior Moreno, Chicago Fire FC left back Miguel Navarro, Philadelphia Union holding midfielder Jose "El Brujo" Martinez, Portland's Renzo Zambrano and Cristian Casseres of the New York Red Bulls all join future Nashville SC Designated Player Jhonder Cadiz as MLS players on the 40-man preliminary roster. 

There were another six players with MLS connections on Paraguay's preliminary list, including Chicago midfielder Gaston Gimenez, Portland's Cristhian Paredes, RBNY's Kaku, Minnesota forward Luis Amarilla, NYCFC's Jesus Medina and Atlanta United II's Erik Lopez.

The 2022 CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers are scheduled to kick off on October 8.
