Seattle Sounders defender Xavier Arreaga out for Portland Timbers clash with quadriceps injury

Seattle Sounders center back Xavier Arreaga has been ruled out of Sunday night's clash against the Portland Timbers (10 pm ET | FS1, TSN 1/3) with a quadriceps injury, manager Brian Schmetzer told the media on Friday.


The Ecuadorian who arrived in Seattle a summer ago had started every match this year the Sounders, who advanced out of its group during the recently concluded MLS is Back Tournament before losing to LAFC in the round of 16.


Schmetzer said Shane O'Neill with pair next to Yeimar Gomez Andrade at the center of Seattle's back four. The Irishman has made four regular season appearances (two starts), and also started the round of 16 defeat when Gomez Andrade was out with an injury.


Both Gomez Andrade and O'Neill will be playing their first-ever Sounders-Timbers matches on Sunday.
