Winners of three out of their last four games, the Colorado Rapids host Sporting Kansas City Sunday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park with just one point separating the two teams in the Western Conference table.

The Rapids (5W-4L-4D) are in fifth place in the West following a 5-0 midweek win over reeling San Jose, while third-place SKC (6W-5L-2D) are coming off consecutive one-goal defeats, including a 2-1 loss to Orlando City SC.

This is the third meeting this season, with the teams sharing the points in a 1-1 draw in Commerce City last month after Sporting KC won 3-2 at the MLS is Back Tournament in July.

Colorado Rapids

Cole Bassett had a goal and an assist and Jonathan Lewis scored for a second consecutive game to help lead the Rapids to a comfortable 5-0 win over the Earthquakes Wednesday night. The Homegrown Bassett has four goals and three assists in eight matches since the restart.

"His game intelligence continues to grow," Robin Fraser said after the match of the 19-year-old. "He's a player who understands how to find the space that he needs to execute the play that he needs to execute, and this is not an easy thing for young players to understand. Cole's progress has obviously been really, really good over the last year or so."

Sporting Kansas City

SKC suffered a second straight one-goal loss, falling to Orlando 2-1 on Wednesday after a 3-2 loss to FC Dallas on the weekend. Johnny Russell pulled Sporting to within a goal early in the second half, but SKC couldn't find an equalizer in a dominant second half.

"It was great to get the first goal. It felt like the second goal was coming," Peter Vermes said after the match. "I actually feel a lot better after this game than I did the last one, even though we lost by a goal and we put ourselves into a hole. I feel better just because I think our approach and our mentality was much different in this game."
