2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar: Concacaf qualifying standings

On Wednesday, August 19, 2020, the World Cup qualifying draw was held for the Concacaf region (Confederation of North, Central and Caribbean Association Football), which includes the United States and Canada. You can see groups and pairings for all three rounds of qualifying below.

The qualification process charts the path for every country to the Qatar 2022 World Cup to be played from November 21 through December 18, 2022. Three automatic berths and a berth to a playoff are at stake. Canada will be competing beginning in the First Round, while the USA qualifies directly to the Final Round.


First Round (Oct-Nov 2020)

A total of 30 Concacaf nations ranked No. 6 through No. 35 (based on the FIFA rankings as of July 16, 2020) will do battle in six groups with each team playing every other team once. Only the six group winners advance.

Final Round (June 2021-March 2022)

The three winners from the Second Round will join the nations ranked No. 1 through No. 5 (based on July 16, 2020 FIFA Rankings): Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras.

The eight teams will play each other home and away with each team playing 14 matches. The top three teams qualify directly to the World Cup. The 4th-place team will qualify for a FIFA Intercontinental Playoff to be played in June 2022.
