Liverpool were crowned the 2019-20 Premier League champions Thursday, ending a 30-year drought as title-holders in England’s top flight. Celebrations have ensued around the world, and the excitement has trickled into the MLS ranks of players, coaches and executives.

Some of the biggest praise has come from Nashville SC CEO Ian Ayre, who used to hold an identical role at Liverpool. Ayre was involved in the recruitment of Jurgen Klopp as head coach, and helped to bring several key players to their title-winning team.

“Thirty years to get there but finally league champions again for the 19th time and Premier League Champions for the first time in modern days,” Ayre said. “As a fan for 50 years I am so happy to see the glory days back at Anfield. My sincerest congratulations go out to Jurgen, the players, owners and all my former colleagues. YNWA.”

Exultation also came from Seattle Sounders assistant coach Djimi Traore, a French defender who spent 1999–2006 at the club. He lifted Champions League and FA Cup trophies while at Anfield.

Meanwhile, former New England Revolution head coach Steve Nicol turned to song and drink. Nicol played nearly 350 games for the Reds across the 1980s and 1990s.
