Julian Green - national team - warm-up top

Julian Green, a fringe attacking midfielder for the US men’s national team, has signed a contract extension with 2. Bundesliga side Greuther Furth, the club announced Monday. The deal has a guaranteed year and team option for a second year, according to a report from Ives Galarcep at SBISoccer.com

Green burst onto the scene ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, when the German-American memorably emerged at Bayern Munich, prompting a call-up to the tournament by then-head coach Jurgen Klinsmann in place of Landon Donovan. He scored in the Round of 16 loss against Belgium, and now has four goals through 15 appearances at the senior level.

Green, 25, has exclusively played in Germany during his professional career. Originally from Florida, he featured for Bayern, VfB Stuttgart and Hamburger SV before arriving at Greuther Furth in 2018. At his current club, Green’s scored 11 goals and handed out five assists across 75 appearances in all competitions.

Green has enjoyed a strong 2019-20 season, scoring four times and assisting once in 20 games. He last appeared for the USMNT during a November 2018 friendly against England.
