The latest MLS Classics edition had it all when the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs arrived at Audi Field back on Nov. 1, 2018.
D.C. United hosted Columbus Crew SC for a Knockout Round match, and what followed can only be described as heart-pumping. There were two goals in extra time, brilliance from Federico “Pipa” Higuain and a penalty-kick shootout where US men’s national team goalkeeper Zack Steffen played hero.
For another plot line to follow: Gregg Berhalter was then coaching the Crew, but left to take the USMNT reins shortly thereafter. It was also the summer of Wayne Rooney and Luciano Acosta in D.C., though the ending didn’t quite go how they envisioned.
