MLS Classics: Chicago Fire make history in 1998 MLS Cup vs. DC United

Bob Bradley knows a thing or two about instant success with a Major League Soccer expansion team. Before LAFC burst out of the gate in 2018, there were the Chicago Fire. Their remarkable debut season was capped with an MLS Cup title and that final match of the 1998 season is the latest chapter of “MLS Classics.”

We head back to the iconic Rose Bowl for the third edition of MLS Cup where future US men’s national team managers — Bradley and Bruce Arena — would match wits.

D.C. United were the two-time defending champions, while the Fire finished second in the league during the regular season and captured the U.S. Open Cup.

Before you settle into today’s stream, check out the lineups for both teams below. Also, here’s the full catalog of “MLS Classics” matches.
