MLS Classics: Bayern Munich comes to Portland for 2014 MLS All-Star Game

The MLS All-Stars have only faced a Bundesliga squad on one occasion, and that encounter is the latest subject of our MLS Classics series.

To set the scene: Bayern Munich strolled into Providence Park on Aug. 6, 2014 and enjoyed a strong start via Robert Lewandowski. But the All-Stars, playing at the home of the Portland Timbers, surged back in the second half when the likes of Landon Donovan and Bradley Wright-Phillips subbed on.

Drama followed after the final whistle, when Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola refused to shake the hand of All-Stars manager Caleb Porter. Now, Guardiola leads Premier League side Manchester City and Porter is at the helm of Columbus Crew SC. The game also came on the heels of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which Germany won over Argentina.
