MLS Classics: Atlanta United's story begins with 2017 opener vs New York Red Bulls

It all had to start somewhere.

Before Atlanta United won MLS Cup 2018 and rewrote league-wide transfer records (both incoming and outgoing), they were an expansion side looking to make a strong first impression. That opportunity arose March 5, 2017 against the New York Red Bulls at Bobby Dodd Stadium, a venue they’ve since departed to routinely draw record-setting crows at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

That scene is the latest subject of our MLS Classics series, one where Tata Martino showed the early stages of a project that'd ultimately reach lofty heights. We don’t want to spoil the result and drama, but rest assured that there are plenty of highlight-worthy moments.

As you get settled for the 4 pm ET stream, get acquainted with each team’s starting lineup below. Also, you can check out the full archive of MLS Classics games here.
