Sporting KC duo dominate eMLS Tournament Special Week Two presented by Coca-Cola® and PlayStation® to Cruise to Champions Week on May 17

NEW YORK (Sunday, April 26, 2020) – The eMLS Tournament Special Week Two presented by Coca-Cola® and PlayStation® saw a Sporting Kansas City duo dominate the competition outscoring their oppositions 11-0.


As part of MLS Unites, a league-wide platform designed to educate communities, entertain fans and elevate heroic efforts taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic, eMLS Tournament Special is a five-episode series that pits 16 MLS clubs against each other in EA SPORTS™ FIFA 20 competition. Four clubs compete each episode with the winning club from each of the first four weeks advancing to a Champions Bracket set to take place on Sunday, May 17. Clubs are represented by both an MLS player and eMLS professional FIFA player.

The opening match of Week 2 showcased Sporting Kansas City homegrown midfielder Wan Kuzain against Minnesota United goalkeeper Tyler Miller. Kuzain opened the scoring with Sporting KC teammate Gerso Fernandes in the 22nd minute and went on to score three more unanswered goals before Tyler Miller subbed himself out of the match in second half stoppage time.

Kuzain’s eMLS counterpart ALEKZANDUR took the 4-0 lead and added two more goals, one from Gerso and one from Mexican international Alan Pulido to eliminate Minnesota United and move on to the Week Two final.

The second matchup featured D.C. United and U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Paul Arriola against New England Revolution’s homegrown midfielder Diego Fagundez in leg one. In the 37th minute, Fagundez earned a penalty kick which Arriola was able to save with keeper Bill Hamid .Arriola kept the momentum in his favor, taking the lead with a goal from Russell Canouse just before the halftime whistle.

Arriola doubled his lead 2-0 in the 74th minute with a goal from his teammate Ola Kamara. Ten minutes later, Fagundez was able to cut the deficit in half by scoring a goal with himself making it 2-1 to conclude leg one. In leg two, the eMLS competitors KingCJ0 and JKO played to a 0-0 draw which allowed D.C. United to advance to the Week Two Final.

The Sporting Kansas City pairing of Kuzain and Alekzandur continued their dominance, scoring five more unanswered goals against D.C. United and advancing to the eMLS Tournament Special Champions Bracket on May 17. Sporting KC will face off against the Week One winner, LAFC in their opening match on May 17.

As a result of Sporting Kansas City’s victory tonight, a donation will be made by MLS WORKS and FOX Sports to Feeding America on behalf of Sporting KC, with MLS WORKS also contributing to Food Banks Canada.
