Multiple Atlanta United players cleared from injury protocol

An injury-ravaged Atlanta United squad now has nearly a clean bill of health (with one obvious exception).

The Five Stripes had a tough go of it from a health standpoint at the start of 2020, even aside from the devastating loss of superstar striker Josef Martinez to a torn ACL in the season's second game.

Center back Miles Robinson (quad strain), defender Edgar Castillo (broken rib), defender Franco Escobar (dead leg) and midfielder Laurence Wyke (concussion) all found themselves on the injury report through Week 2, with Homegrown defender George Bello just having returned from a concussion before the MLS season was postponed.

With the long layoff, however, Atlanta announced Thursday that all except for Martinez have fully mended and will be ready to retake the practice field whenever the league's training moratorium is lifted.

Martinez, meanwhile, continues to rehab his torn ACL that could cost him all of 2020 regardless of when the league resumes play. That means the club will still have a gaping void up top, but head coach Frank de Boer now at least has his full compliment of resources at his disposal to try and weather the loss.
