MLS Unites: To Inspire Kids


As part of
MLS Unites
, a league-wide platform designed to educate communities, entertain fans and elevate heroic efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, the league unveiled a week-long series of free digital programming and activities starting Monday, April 13 to inspire children to stay active and healthy while social distancing.
MLS WORKS
, the League’s social responsibility platform, is teaming up with community partners EverFi, the U.S. Soccer Foundation and UNICEF USA to provide free at-home resources for kids and throughout the week. MLS and MLS clubs will also have a series of youth-inspired digital programs involving players, coaches, staff, partners and fans.

Major League Soccer and FOX Sports today announced that eMLS Tournament Special presented by Coca-Cola
®
and PlayStation
®
will debut on Sunday, April 19 on FS1 and FOX Deportes at 7 p.m. ET.
Each Sunday at 7 p.m. ET, MLS players and eMLS players from the same MLS clubs will team up in single-elimination EA SPORTS™ FIFA 20 tournaments and Week One pits the Chicago Fire against FC Cincinnati before the digital version of ‘El Trafico’ between LA Galaxy and LAFC. LA Galaxy’s newest striker and Mexican International Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez will face off against crosstown rival, LAFC offensive force Adama Diomande in Leg One of Week One’s second matchup.

Atlanta United Challenging Academy Players on Soccer Skills and Life Skills During Social Distancing


Atlanta United’s mindset of upward progression from academy to first team continues to be emphasized even during social distancing and training from afar. The club is keeping their academy players engaged during this unprecedented time, utilizing drills, best practices and chats with pro players during quarantine to keep the young players active.
The academy has provided players a

emphasizing career, education and life skills. While on-field skills are regularly assigned, academy leaders are also challenging players to be well-rounded and focus on life skills that will be useful at home, ranging from cooking and cleaning to resume building and foreign language skills.  
Similarly, the academy is also relying on current pros to keep the young players engaged. Last week, Atlanta United academy players

spoke with the club’s U-12 and U-13 players in a video chat, encouraging the players to stay fit and focused on advancement within the academy. Former Atlanta United captain

also offered his guidance to the U-12 and U-13 squad, while U-17 coach Jack Collins set up a call with his former teammate and current West Ham United captain Mark Noble.

  • Sporting Kansas City on Friday launched the Sporting Community Kitchen, a partnership with City Foods & Events and Operation BBQ Relief to provide 1,000 free meals every weekday to citizens across Greater Kansas City affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Seattle Sounders FC will host its Sports Science Seminar series presented by adidas beginning this week with marquee presenters including Rondé Barber, Gregg Berhalter and representatives from Borussia Dortmund, the LA Clippers and additional sports leagues. The seminar is taking place on three consecutive Wednesdays in April - April 15, April 22 and April 29 - from 12-4 p.m. PT each day.
  • The Los Angeles Football Club has teamed with Allied Esports to produce the LAFC Gaming Charity Challenge Series – a 10-game FIFA20 series streamed live on twitch.tv/lafc to support Los Angeles-based charities in their fight against COVID-19. LAFC most recently faced Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Friday.
  • Minnesota United FC and Allina Health, in partnership with the American Red Cross, will host a blood drive at Allianz Field on April 23-24 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. CT each day in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
