On this day 2017: FC Dallas U-16s top Real Madrid at Generation Adidas Cup

On this day in 2017, the FC Dallas Under-16s pulled off an epic result at the Generation Adidas Cup, claiming a 1-0 group stage victory over Real Madrid in front of a raucous home crowd at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

It was a stalwart defensive effort from famously potent FC Dallas academy youngsters to keep Real Madrid off the scoresheet, with the breakthrough goal coming in the 54th minute (watch it above). It was winger Brayan Padilla who found the opening goal, cashing home the rebound after his initial shot was stopped by the goalkeeper.

It would turn out to be the decisive tally, as FCD managed to bear down for the rest of the match and preserve the 1-0 victory.

The win pushed FC Dallas into second place in Group A of the Champions Division. While it was a legendary victory, it was unfortunately not enough to push them through to the semifinals, with only the group winner advancing, and Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle had already locked up the top spot.

Argentine side River Plate would eventually go on to win that year's Championship Division title.
