On this day 2006: Houston Dynamo play first MLS match

On April 2, 2006, the Houston Dynamo played their first MLS game against the Colorado Rapids at Robertson Stadium in front of 25,462 onlookers. It marked the start of a wildly successful inaugural campaign for the Dynamo, who would finish 11-8-13 and in second place in the Western Conference before embarking on a playoff run that would culminate in a penalty kick victory over the New England Revolution in the MLS Cup final. They would defend their title with another MLS Cup championship in 2007 in a rematch with the Revs, becoming the second MLS team to win back-to-back titles.
