In only the Black-and-Red’s fourth match at their new soccer stadium, Rooney firmly announced that he meant business in MLS in a game that in many ways helped to catapult D.C. United to an Audi MLS Cup Playoffs berth in 2018.
Somewhat lost in Rooney’s heroics was a memorable performance from Luciano Acosta, the other half of the #LuchoRoo dynamic duo. Their partnership helped steer in D.C.’s new era, with Rooney later developing a penchant for chipping Orlando City's goalkeeper.
