Just because there will be no games for a 30-day period because of the coronavirus pandemic doesnāt mean FC Dallas coach Luchi Gonzalez is taking a break.
On the weekly āLuchi Gonzalez Showā on 105.3 The Fan, he said this unprecedented time is one where he and his staff can be creative when it comes to preparing his team.
āMaybe it means going and watching old games and breaking those down,ā Gonzalez said. āWe have a very committed team. I know they are going to do the extra [work] to be ready and be the most prepared so that when we are back together, weāre better off. My main message is weāre not victims ā¦ Weāre lucky to have each other and we have to support each other and do whatās best. Weāre going to find solutions and weāre going to do the best we can to be prepared.ā
Gonzalez said there is no blueprint to follow because this has never happened before. And while there was initial disappointment in pausing a season that had just started, Gonzalez said the safety of everyone at FC Dallas, and the clubās fans, is the main objective.
āAt the end of the day, [competing] is not the priority,ā Gonzalez said. āI have to say that I agree with this decision by the league because [our] health and safety is number one. Weāre going to do whatever it takes to get through this and protect our players, fans, people in the club and their extended families.ā
The league also instituted a training moratorium on Friday through Sunday. Gonzalez is hoping to be back on the training pitch sooner than later.
āThis is new territory for all of us,ā Gonzalez said. āThe players are not training at this moment. There are no games, as you know. But [weāre] just kind of taking it one moment at a time [and] learning more. On Monday, weāll get an update from the league and go from there.ā
