Chicago Fire FC announced the signing of academy product Javier Casas on Tuesday, making the 16-year-old midfielder the 17th Homegrown signing in club history.

The announcement marks the second Homegrown signing to be revealed by the Fire in as many days, following Monday's announcement that the club had signed 16-year-old midfielder Brian Gutierrez.

Casas played the past six seasons with the club's youth affiliate Fire Juniors and the Chicago academy, starting 64 of his 65 appearances in his time with the organization. He trained with the first team during both the 2019 and 2020 preseasons.

"Javier has shown tremendous upside as he has been training within the first-team throughout the 2020 season," head coach Raphael Wicky said in Tuesday's release. "His soccer IQ is beyond his years and our staff is looking forward to working with him to continue his development in a professional setting."

Casas has also featured on the US youth international circuit, most recently as part of the U-16 side that won the championship at the 2019 Nike Friendlies.
