The Colorado Rapids have signed midfielder Will Vint to a Homegrown contract, the club announced Wednesday. Colorado acquired his Homegrown rights from Atlanta United for a 2022 MLS SuperDraft fourth round pick.

Vint, 18, spent two years with Manchester United’s youth academy following a trial with the club and also was at Atlanta, where he made 16 appearances for Atlanta United 2 last season while a member of the academy. He grew up in Colorado Springs.

“Will is a promising, young talent with a high ceiling,” Rapids EVP & GM Padraig Smith said in a statement. “For him to have previously earned an opportunity with the academy of a club like Manchester United goes to show his potential and why we’re excited to have him join the Rapids.”

Vint was forced to depart Manchester after visa issues. His father Peter, a former U.S. Olympic Committee executive, ran Everton’s academy for several years but departed in 2017. That eventually led to the expiration of his UK work visa, which forced Vint to leave Manchester United, then he joined Atlanta.

The Colorado Rapids kicked off their 2020 season in style, beating D.C. United 2-1. They host Orlando City this Saturday (9 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US, MLS LIVE on DAZN in Canada).
