Miguel Ibarra, searching for MLS home, on trial with Seattle Sounders

Miguel Ibarra - Minnesota United - celebration

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trialist

Former Minnesota United midfielder Miguel Ibarra may be close to finding a new home.

After spending the majority of the last eight years with the Loons, including during their NASL days, Ibarra's contract option was declined by Minnesota this offseason. Now, according to the Washington Post's Steven Goff, Ibarra is set to go on trial with the Seattle Sounders. The trial was later confirmed on Wednesday by the Sounders.

Ibarra, who turns 30 in March, made 84 appearances with the Loons over the last three MLS seasons. In 2019, his production levels dropped to one goal and two assists in 22games.

A versatile player, Ibarra would be a valuable addition for Seattle as the reigning MLS Cup champions deal with the fixture congestion that accompanies Concacaf Champions League games at the beginning of the season. He's also made 19 appearances for Liga MX side Club Leon, plus has earned three US men's national team caps.

Seattle have ramped up their offseason activity lately, acquiring midfielder Joao Paulo and defender Yeimar Gomez Andrade in recent weeks.
