Report: Portland Timbers set to land Pumas UNAM forward after exit from Liga MX club

It appears Felipe Mora is inching closer to officially joining the Portland Timbers.


The 26-year-old Chilean forward could be the latest to make the move from Liga MX to Major League Soccer, with Pumas UNAM sending out a congratulatory tweet to Mora Sunday with the Timbers logo next to Moraā€™s headshot to end an accompanying highlight video.

Sam Stejskal of The Athletic tweeted the deal would be a loan with an option to buy and Mora would be a TAM signing.

The Timbers have made no secret of their need for attacking help with the Gavin Wilkinson, the clubā€™s general manager, last week confirming 24-year-old Polish striker Jaroslaw Niezgoda was in the process of completing a medical with the club last week and hoped for a resolution in the coming days.


Mora has played in Liga MX since making the move to Cruz Azul from Universidad de Chile in July 2017. He scored 14 goals in 40 appearances with La Maquina before joining Pumas on loan a year later.


Pumas signed Mora on Jan. 1, 2019, one day after the six-month loan was up. He has 19 goals in 65 overall games since joining Pumas.


He made 14 appearances during the Apertura campaign, most as a substitute, scoring one goal, but has not featured in the clubā€™s three Clausura contests to date.


Mora has three caps for the Chilean national team after making his debut in a May 2018, in an international friendly against Romania.
