The Portland Timbers have signed midfielder Blake Bodily to a Homegrown contract, the club announced Friday. Bodily spent the last three seasons at the University of Washington.

Bodily, 22, had 17 goals and 18 assists across 56 appearances (39 starts) during his time on campus and was named Pac-12 Player of the Year this season and was a First-Team All Pac-12 in each of his three years in college. He also made 35 appearances with Portland Timbers 2 over the last few seasons.

"We are excited to add a talented Homegrown player to the club in Blake,ā€ GM and club president Gavin Wilkinson said in a statement. ā€œHe already has experience playing with T2 during his time with the academy, and has excelled in his development at the collegiate level. Blake will start with T2 with an opportunity to earn first-team minutes. Weā€™re happy for Blake and his family and look forward to his continued growth as he begins his professional career.ā€

Travis Clark ranked him No. 4 on MLSsoccer.com's list of college Homegrown prospects earlier this offseason, describing him as "a creative player who can pop up in wide areas to create goals, or come inside and score them himself, Bodilyā€™s an up-and-coming talent who could add depth off the bench in MLS."

Bodily is the club's third Homegrown signing. He is also the club's third addition of the offseason, following defender Dario Zuparic and winger Yimmi Chara, the latter arriving on a Designated Player deal.

The club open their 2020 season on March 1 against Minnesota United.
