Building on an initial hint from ESPN analyst Taylor Twellman during 2020 MLS SuperDraft coverage, longtime American soccer reporter Ives Galarcep is reporting that FC Cincinnati are targeting PSV Eindhoven creative midfielder Gaston Pereiro as a Designated Player signing.

Pereiro, a 24-year-old Uruguayan, has been a regular for PSV Eindhoven since arriving ahead of the 2015-16 campaign, scoring at least 10 goals in each of his first four full Dutch seasons and making 19 UEFA Champions League appearances.

Eindhoven are two-time Eredivisie champions during Pereiro's tenure, while also finishing second last season.

Pereiro has also been linked to a fair number of clubs in bigger European leagues, especially since his contract at Eindhoven expires at the end of the season and he could be available on a free transfer.

Originally a product of Montevideo powerhouse Nacional, Pereiro would be another addition to manager Ron Jans' squad as he looks to improve on a tough first season in MLS for Cincinnati, in which they finished with only 24 points.

The Uruguayan would immediately improve the attacking options for a club that scored only 31 goals in their maiden season. That total was tied for the fewest since Chivas USA managed only 29 in 2014, their final MLS campaign.
