TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

FC Dallas have aimed to find some veteran know-how to bolster their youthful squad, and on Thursday, announced they have acquired Brazilian midfielder Thiago Santos in a transfer from Palmeiras, and signed him using Targeted Allocation Money through the 2022 season with club options for 2023 and 2024.

“From championship experience to midfield leadership, Thiago brings so much to FC Dallas,” said FC Dallas president Dan Hunt in a team statement. “Thiago is someone who can make an immediate impact for us.”

Santos, 30, has spent his entire career to date in his native Brazil, playing at a series of smaller clubs before joining América Mineiro in 2014, and then going on to play for powerhouse Palmeiras in 2015, winning league titles in 2016 and 2018 there and featuring in the last four Copa Libertadores tournaments.

FC Dallas have a bevy of young midfielders coming through the club's ranks playing a variety of roles, but Santos will be counted on to provide experience and a steady head in the middle of the park. FCD open the 2020 MLS regular season on February 29 at home against the Philadelphia Union.
