Philadelphia Union capture Generation adidas U-12 title

The Philadelphia Union earned a measure of revenge, and a championship to boot, beating LAFC, 4-1, to capture the Generation adidas Cup U-12 title at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground Sunday afternoon.

The Union finished second in their group to LAFC, which won, 1-0, to open Group D play. But from that defeat, Philadelphia defeated Columbus Crew SC and the Houston Dynamo by the same 2-1 scoreline.

The Union beat New York City FC, 2-1, in the quarterfinals and knocked off Atlanta United, 3-1, in the semifinals.

LAFC went undefeated in group play before beating Inter Miami CF, 3-2, in the quarterfinals and advancing to the final on penalty kicks against the New York Red Bulls.

Inter Miami reached the quarterfinals by edging NYCFC on penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw in both teams' group stage finale.

It was also historic for Nashville SC, which saw its U-12 side pick up the first academy victory yet, beating Minnesota United, 1-0, in the group stage.
