Looking back at the MLS Cup 2016 penalty shootout between the Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC

Roman Torres 2016 MLS Cup winning PK

It's Round III of MLS Cup between the Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC, as the teams will square off in the 2019 MLS Cup Final at CenturyLink Field on Nov. 10 (3 pm ET | ABC, Univision, TUDN, TVAS, TSN).

In the first MLS Cup clash between the teams, the result was decided by a penalty shootout in 2016's edition, after the game ended 0-0 through 120 minutes, even as Seattle famously failed to put a shot on goal in that period.

That set up the fourth penalty shootout in MLS Cup history. Re-live the drama right here:

As so often happens in these occasions, the final kick, taken by defender Roman Torres, became the indelible image of the shootout, with the Sounders defender – who has scored just one goal in his MLS career – clinching the Sounders' first MLS Cup with the PK conversion.
