D.C. United's 5-1 loss to Toronto FC in the opening round of the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs wasn't merely painful for the scoreline, which Ben Olsen feels did not reflect the proceedings.
What came through from the player comments is that D.C. United had other designs on the playoffs in Wayne Rooney's final season with the club. Star 'keeper Bill Hamid was direct: "In this moment we didn't accomplish what our goal was."
"This year the playoffs weren't good enough for us," added Paul Arriola. "We wanted to go far and we came up short for the second year in a row."
"Frustrated and disappointed that we haven't been able to get out of the first round and we'll look to fix that," Olsen said. "If we want to move on and keep pushing and ultimately hold trophies, we've got to get over this little hurdle."
