The New England Revolution can clinch a berth in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs and New York City FC can lock up the top spot in the Eastern Conference when the foes tangle Sunday at Gillette Stadium.

The Revs (10-10-12) have a four-point edge above the playoff line after a stunning rally to earn a 2-2 draw against the Portland Timbers Wednesday at Providence Park. A Jeremy Ebobisse brace gave the hosts a two-goal lead in the 81st minute. After Gustavo Bou pulled the Revs to within a goal two minutes from full time, Carles Gil netted the equalizer in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time from the penalty spot following Video Review.

NYCFC (17-5-10) pulled within a point of clinching first place in the East for the first time in club history after blasting Atlanta United, 4-1, at Yankee Stadium Wednesday. Alexandru Mitrita scored the third hat trick in NYCFC history to give the hosts a three-goal lead inside 34 minutes. Maxi Moralez, who became the third player in league history to pick up 20 assists in a season, scuffed a penalty kick that would have given the Cityzens a four-goal lead at the break. After Pity Martinez converted from the spot after halftime, Heber made his triumphant return from injury with his 15th goal of the season in the 87th minute.

The teams met three weeks ago at Yankee Stadium with Jesus Medina scoring a second-half brace, including the winner from the penalty spot in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time after Juan Fernando Caicedo put the Revs in front two minutes after kickoff. New England played most of the match with 10 men after Antonio Delamea was sent off in the 9th minute for DOGSO.
