Atlanta United hope to build momentum off a midweek win at FC Cincinnati, while the San Jose Earthquakes will try to rebound from consecutive road defeats when the sides square off at Mercedes-Benz Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Atlanta (16-11-3) recovered from back-to-back defeats to defeat FC Cincinnati, 2-0, at Nippert Stadium Wednesday night. They result vaulted them to within a point of the second-place Philadelphia Union in the East. Josef Martinez struck for both goals in a six-minute span in the second half to extend an MLS record of 15 consecutive matches with a goal, pulling within a pair of goals of Golden Boot presented by Audi leader Carlos Vela.

The Earthquakes (13-12-5) are just one point above the playoff line in the Western Conference after suffering a 2-1 loss to New York City FC last Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Chris Wondolowski put the visitors in front with his 14th goal of the season and MLS record 158th of his career in the 20th minute. But Keaton Parks and Alexandru Mitrita scored three minutes apart late in the first half to send the Quakes to their fifth defeat in their last seven matches.
