New England, Chelsea donate $4 million from "Final Whistle on Hate" match

The New England Revolution and Premier League side Chelsea have partnered to officially donate $4 million to various charities that aim to combat antisemitism and discrimination.

The proceeds were raised in conjunction with a May 15 friendly at Gillette Stadium, one that came shortly after Bruce Arena was hired as head coach and sporting director of the Eastern Conference side.

The match, dubbed the “Final Whistle on Hate,” ultimately benefited 16 different organizations. The idea was originally forged by club owners Roman Abramovich and Robert Kraft, who each donated $1 million to the cause.

In all, three organizations received grants upwards of $500,000: the Anti-Defamation League, Holocaust Educational Trust and World Jewish Congress. You can check out a full list of donors here.

Chelsea won the match, 3-0, though the focus was all on fighting a global rise in antisemitic activity.
