Sporting Kansas City will look to make it three straight wins for the first time this season when they host the reeling Houston Dynamo Saturday night at Children's Mercy Park.
Sporting (9-11-7) are six points below the Western Conference playoff line, but have won consecutive games for only the second time this season after a 1-0 home win over Minnesota United Thursday night. Erik Hurtado scored the dramatic 88th-minute winner, latching onto a Johnny Russell pass and slipping past an onrushing Vito Mannone for the game's lone goal.
The Dynamo (9-14-4) are three points behind Sporting, but are coming off a vastly different Heineken Rivalry Week result, falling to FC Dallas, 5-1, Sunday at Toyota Stadium. Memo Rodriguez scored the lone goal for the visitors, but it came after FC Dallas opened up a four-goal lead. Michael Barrios tacked on a stoppage-time gut punch as FCD took home El Capitan again and the Dynamo extended a winless run to six games.
This is the second meeting this season with the teams playing to a 1-1 draw at BBVA Stadium June 1. Alberth Elis scored the 69th-minute equalizer six minutes after Yohan Croizet put Sporting in front.
