TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

The MLS secondary transfer window is closed, but there was one deal that got done before the deadline.

LAFC announced on Monday they have acquired defender Diego Palacios using Targeted Allocation Money from Ecuadorian club SD Aucas, completing the deal before Wednesday's transfer deadline.

The 20-year-old has played for two clubs to date: Aucas, where he began his career, and Dutch outfit Willem II, where he played in 2018.

“Diego is an impressive young player who has drawn interest from some of the top clubs in the world,” LAFC EVP & General Manager John Thorrington said in a statement. “We are excited that Diego has chosen to come to Los Angeles to develop and grow in the next stage of his career.”

LAFC reportedly beat out Spanish giant FC Barcelona in acquiring Palacios, a left back who was a regular for Ecuador at this year's U-20 World Cup, where La Tri finished in third place.

“Diego is a young, talented left back and we’re really excited because we think he’s another player that fits well with everything we try to do,” said LAFC head coach Bob Bradley.

Palacios is the second 20-year-old South American LAFC acquired in the summer window, joining Uruguayan Brian Rodriguez, who was signed as a Young Designated Player from Peñarol.
