Chicago Fire midfielder Dax McCarty hits milestone moment of 350 MLS starts

Dax McCarty – Chicago Fire – strikes ball

With a start tonight against FC Cincinnati, Chicago Fire midfielder Dax McCarty has become the 13th player in MLS history to reach 350 starts in the regular season.

McCarty, 32, has started at least 20 games every season since 2011, twice earning MLS All-Star honors along the way. A two-way player, he has 19 goals and 57 assists for his career, twice winning a Supporters’ Shield while with the New York Red Bulls. McCarty has also made 22 starts in the MLS playoffs, scoring two goals and adding one assist.

Chicago is McCarty’s fourth MLS club, with other stints coming at D.C. United and FC Dallas, the team that selected him in the 2006 SuperDraft as a Generation adidas member out of the University of North Carolina. The Florida native has also earned 13 appearances with the US men’s national team, plus featured at the 2007 U-20 World Cup.

While captain at RBNY, McCarty was memorably traded to Chicago for $400,000 in General Allocation Money. Over his 13-plus seasons, the midfielder has never received a red card in MLS.
