El Salvador can secure safe passage into the Concacaf Gold Cup quarterfinals with a win or a draw against Honduras, who are only playing for pride after back-to-back losses resulted in elimination from advancing out of Group C.

There's a long, storied history between the rivals with 66 all-time meetings dating back to 1930. Yet, there's only been one Gold Cup matchup, which was won by Honduras, 1-0, in the 2013 group stage with Jorge Claros scoring the winner in second-half stoppage time.

Honduras were unable to bounce back from a 3-2 defeat in Jamaica and were stunned by Curacao, 1-0, in front of a pro-Honduran crowd at BBVA Stadium Friday night.

Los Catrachos came out determined and pressured Curacao from the opening kickoff, but they couldn't solve goalkeeper Eloy Room, who made 13 saves to frustrate Honduras all night. The only goal scored was the first-ever in the Gold Cup for Curacao as Leandro Bacuna stuck a first-time effort into the net five minutes from halftime. Honduras thought they had the equalizer just before the hour through Rubilio Castillo, but the goal was waved off due to an offside call in the buildup.

After snatching a 1-0 victory over Curacao in the first match of the group stage, El Salvador battled Jamaica to a pragmatic 0-0 draw Friday in Houston to move closer to clinching a quarterfinals berth for the sixth time and fourth in the last five tournaments.

In a defensive battle, neither team managed a shot on frame until the final quarter hour when Jamaica's Shaun Francis dialed up a long-distance attempt. But goalkeeper Henry Hernandez was equal to the task, making a stunning save to keep the game scoreless. La Selecta are second in Group C on a tiebreak, but level on points with Jamaica.
