Already eliminated from advancing, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana look to close out their 2019 Gold Cup run on a positive note when they square off at Children's Mercy Park Wednesday night.

While this is the first-ever Gold Cup meeting, the Caribbean sides have played each other 21 times since 1978, with the Soca Warriors winning 14 of those matches. The last encounter was a 1-1 draw in an international friendly in 2017.

After opening the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Panama, Trinidad and Tobago fell to the US, 6-0, Saturday night in Cleveland. It was the seventh consecutive game Trinidad failed to score in a loss, although they had the better of play for much of the opening 30 minutes. A bit unlucky to go into the second half down a goal when Aaron Long scored his first international goal, the Soca Warriors conceded five goals in the final 24 minutes, which didn't sit well with head coach Dennis Lawrence.

“How can a team be so good for the first 65 minutes, and so terrible for the last 25,” Lawrence said. “After a game like tonight, you will see changes next game.”

It was a historic second-ever Gold Cup match for debutants Guyana despite being eliminated in a 4-2 loss to Panama Saturday night in Cleveland.

Neil Danns scored the Golden Jaguars' first Gold Cup goal, an equalizing penalty kick in the 33rd minute after Abdiel Arroyo put Panama in front after 16 minutes. Following an own goal against Terence Vancooten in the 40th minute, Los Canaleros scored two more goals, a 51st minute Eric Davis penalty kick followed by Gabriel Torres' strike four minutes from full time. Danns capped the scoring on the night with his second from the penalty spot in second-half stoppage time.

“I can tell you that our team will change dramatically for our final game,” Guyana coach Michael Johnson said. "So there’s a number of opportunities still to come, and that’s what a tournament like this one brings, opportunities for players to really put themselves on the global map.”
