Real Salt Lake 2, Atlanta United 1 | 2019 MLS Match Recap

Briefly under a double-rainbow at Rio Tinto Stadium on Friday night, a Jefferson Savarino golazo in the 94th minute earned Real Salt Lake a 2-1 win over Atlanta United.

With the score tied deep into stoppage time, Savarino stepped up and ripped a vicious shot past Brad Guzan into the side netting just before the referee blew the final whistle.

To open the scoring, with almost an exact re-creation of his strike last week which earned Goal of the Week honors, Sebastian Saucedo also scored a long-range shot into the bottom corner in the 36th minute. Josef Martinez scored an equalizer in the second half, almost earning Atlanta a road draw. Pity Martinez and Franco Escobar assisted Martinez's strike.

Sam Johnson, who was benched in RSL's last match for being late to a team meeting, was not in the starting XI again. Pity Martinez was rotated for Atlanta, while Tito Villalba didn't make the trip.

  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH
    : Savarinoooooooo!

  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Bofo Saucedo isn't giving up that starting spot easily. He has been a difference-maker for three consecutive games, as has Jefferson Savarino.
