Report: Seattle to make Danny Leyva youngest player in Sounders history

The Seattle Sounders are nearing a deal to make 15-year-old Danny Leyva the youngest first-team signing in club history, according to a report from Paul Tenorio in The Athletic.

Leyva has already been playing for the Sounders' USL squad, the Tacoma Defiance, where he became the division's second-youngest player to ever start a match. He also spent significant time training with the Sounders' first team during preseason. He is expected to be a part of Seattle's Generation adidas Cup squad, where they will compete against Valencia, Flamengo and the Montreal Impact. Travis Clark named him one of the top 10 players to watch at the tournament earlier this week.

The Las Vegas native turns 16 in May. If he played even a minute this season, he would be younger than any other player to feature in an MLS match this season.

The youngest to feature so far was the LA Galaxy's Efrain Alvarez, who was 16 years, eight months and 12 days old when he came on for the Galaxy's MLS opener in March.
