According to Doug Roberson of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the club and Gressel have halted contract negotiations. The 25-year-old has a contract option for 2020 and was listed as making $111,250 as of September, per the MLS Players Association.

Gressel was selected No. 8 overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft and was an instant success, winning MLS Rookie of the Year before reaching another level in 2018. He had five goals and 14 assists in 33 appearances last season, helping Atlanta win MLS Cup.
This season he has two assists in three MLS matches while adding two goals in three Concacaf Champions League matches.
