A familiar face could be returning to a new location in MLS very soon, according to a report.

Goal.com's Italian edition reported on Friday that the LA Galaxy have asked about the availability of Giancarlo Gonzalez, and his current club, Bologna, don't plan to stand in his way.

Bologna boss Sinisa Mihajlovic told reporters that Gonzalez is currently not slotted in to be a starter at center back and – while he's happy to keep him around – that if the player leaves, "I am happy for him."

Bologna sporting director Ricardo Bigon said the Galaxy have asked about Gonzalez.

"We’ve received a proposal from the Galaxy to find out if there’s availability on our part to let him leave," he said. "We are waiting for an official offer. After [the game against] Torino he will leave if that offer arrives, we’re waiting for a signal from them. The boy would agree to go, but said he wanted to give 100 percent while he was still here."

Gonzalez, 31, has been with Bologna since 2017, moving to the Serie A side from Palermo, where he moved in the summer of 2014 after helping lead Costa Rica to a shock quarterfinal berth at the World Cup.

Gonzalez has some experience in MLS, having signed ahead of the 2014 season with Columbus Crew SC, and settled in well there before departing for Italy. He made 17 appearances in MLS in 2014.

The Galaxy added defender Diego Polenta in the offseason, but the team is thought to be looking to further bolster their defensive corps under new head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto.
