2019 Season Preview: New York City FC

It's a new era in the Bronx for NYCFC ... following departures of David Villa and Tommy McNamara, no original members of the expansion squad remain.

Head coach Dome Torrent enters his first full season, with key additions of Romanian attacker Alexandru Mitrita and American international Keaton Parks, NYCFC are reloaded for success once again in 2019.

Team strengths and weaknesses

  • Strength: Say what you want about the second half of last season, but they still ended up 56 points (third in the East) and bring back nine starters from that squad. Lots of talent.
  • Weakness: It's not entirely clear how that talent fits together especially since the two starters they lost were their best (David Villa) and most important (Yangel Herrera) players.

Predictions

  • Ben Baer: 7th in East
  • Calen Carr: 6th in East
  • Charlie Davies: 7th in East
  • Matt Doyle: 8th in East
  • Bobby Warshaw: 8th in East
  • Andrew Wiebe: 5th in East
