Report: LAFC sign young defender Lamar Batista

LAFC have brought in a young defender as a trialist and a report indicates the player will be signed for the 2019 season.

20-year-old Lamar Batista, a central defender, joined LAFC's preseason in January and LAFC fan podcast Defenders of the Banc reported in a new episode this week that the player has put pen to paper to sign a contract with the club.

Batista most recently played in the Portland Timbers organization, primary for the Timbers 2 reserve team in USL, where he made 44 appearances the last two seasons. He made one appearance for the Timbers' MLS team, in the 2017 U.S. Open Cup. The Oklahoma native played one season of collegiate soccer at UC Santa Barbara.

LAFC have added Colombian youngster Eddie Segura at center back this offseason. The Black & Gold open the 2019 MLS regular season on March 3 when they host Sporting KC.
