Giancarlo Gonzalez - Costa Rica

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

The LA Galaxy are reportedly interested in bringing back a familiar face after four years away from Major League Soccer.

According to ESPN's Jeff Carlisle, the Galaxy are interested in signing Costa Rican center back Giancarlo Gonzalez, who currently plays for Serie A's Bologna and starred for Columbus Crew SC in 2014 before being transferred to Palermo in a deal reportedly worth $5 million, at the time a record fee for an MLS defender.

Gonzalez, who just turned 31, made 17 appearances for the Crew in 2014, then starred at the World Cup with Los Ticos and earned his move to Palermo, where he became a mainstay for three seasons. He 85 appearances for the club in Serie A before being transferred to Bologna ahead of the 2017/18 season, where he has made 35 appearances in the last year and a half.

He also has 76 caps with the Costa Rican national team.

For the deal to be completed, the Galaxy would need to jump up in the Allocation Order. The Galaxy currently have the 11th spot while Toronto FC recently acquired the top slot. The move probably wouldn't be cheap; in 2018 Orlando City SC sent FC Dallas $400,000 Targeted Allocation Money to swap No. 6 for No. 1.

The Galaxy recently signed Uruguayan center back Diego Polenta to bolster their defense.
