Update (7 pm ET, 2/15): The Timbers announced that Ivacic underwent successful surgery to repair a left tibial stress fracture on Friday afternoon. They also confirmed the expected recovery period of 6-8 weeks originally reported by The Oregonian.
That comes from a report from Jamie Goldberg at The Oregonian, who says the surgery on the newcomer's leg, will sideline him an estimated 6-8 weeks.
Ivacic, 25, joined the Timbers this offseason on a transfer from Olimpija Ljubljana. The Slovenian was brought in to compete for the starting goalkeeping spot in Portland.
Goldberg's report also noted that as a result of the pre-existing injury, the Timbers successfully renegotiated Ivacic's transfer fee, saving approximately $200,000 as a result.
Portland will open the 2019 MLS regular season on March 2 at the Colorado Rapids.
