Stejskal: FC Cincinnati make offer to free agent Osvaldo Alonso

Osvaldo Alonso - Seattle Sounders - May 2018

FC Cincinnati have made a strong two-year offer to free agent midfielder Ozzie Alonso, multiple sources have told MLSsoccer.com.

The sources said that Alonso is still weighing Cincinnati’s offer, which they described as the best currently on the table for the 33-year-old defensive midfielder. The sources don’t expect Alonso to return to the Seattle Sounders, where he’s played since 2009.

A Sounders legend and the club’s longtime captain, Alonso has spent his entire MLS career with Seattle. He has 10 goals and 24 assists in 277 career regular season appearances across 10 seasons with the Sounders. He had 27 appearances and 23 starts between regular season and playoff action in 2018.

Cincinnati currently have 21 players on their 2019 roster. The expansion club already have several established central midfielders, including Fatai Alashe, Victor Ulloa, Leo Bertone and Eric Alexander
