Seattle Sounders on brink of clinching MLS playoff streak record

Seattle Sounders postgame celebration

UPDATE: Results elsewhere around MLS in Week 32 have prevented the Sounders from clinching a playoff spot this week; they may have that opportunity in their next match, at Orlando City on Oct. 17

The Seattle Sounders turned their season around, and are on the cusp of matching MLS history.

The Sounders, who revived their 2018 MLS regular-season campaign with a recent nine-game winning streak, have a chance of booking a ticket to the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs in Week 32, when they take on the Houston Dynamo on Monday (10:30 pm ET | Full TV & Streaming Info).

If the Sounders do indeed clinch a postseason berth this year, they will have made the playoffs 10 consecutive seasons, which would match the MLS record set by the LA Galaxy from 1996-2005.

Like that record-setting run by the Galaxy, the Sounders' run means they have made the playoffs every year of their MLS existence to date. If they manage it this year, their run of consistency, which included back-to-back MLS Cup appearances and winning the title in 2016, remains intact.
