The stage is set for the inaugural Campeones Cup.

Toronto FC, Major League Soccer's representative, will host Liga MX's entrant, Tigres UANL, in the first edition of the regional cup competition, at BMO Field on September 19 at 8:30 pm ET.

Toronto FC is in by virtue of being the reigning MLS Cup holders, while Tigres won the Campeon de Campeones game against Santos Laguna by a 4-0 scoreline, to decide which of last season's league champions in Mexico would play in the new cup game.

Interestingly, the game will be rematch between TFC and Tigres, who in the spring played a two-game quarterfinal series in the 2018 Concacaf Champions League, with Toronto advancing on their run to the final in that competition.

“This will be a fun rematch for us after an exciting series with Tigres in the Champions League,” said Toronto FC president Bill Manning in a team statement. “We believe that the Campeones Cup has the potential to become an important competition between MLS and Liga MX and are happy to host the first one at BMO Field.”

The 2018 Campeones Cup is the inaugural edition of the yearly event that is part of a larger multi-year collaboration between MLS and Liga MX, designed to bring fans together from the US, Mexico and Canada in a show of unity while fueling a rivalry between two of the world’s most competitive soccer leagues. The three countries will host the 2026 World Cup together.

Tickets are on sale now to Toronto FC members as part of an exclusive pre-sale offering. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, July 26th at 3 pm ET via Ticketmaster.ca. Fans are urged to purchase tickets early in order to ensure the best seats for what is sure to be an exciting clash between the champions of both leagues.
