Indepdendent Panel rejects appeal of Alejandro Bedoya's red card

Alejandro Bedoya will have to serve his red-card suspension against Toronto FC on June 8 (8 pm ET | TSN — Full TV & streaming info), after the Independent Panel rejected the Philadelphia Union's appeal of the second yellow card issued to their midfielder for dissent in the 19th minute of Philadelphia's game against Atlanta United on June 2.


Bedoya had received his first yellow card for unsporting behavior in the 11th minute of the game, and received his marching orders after arguing a penalty call against the Union to earn a second caution.

The Independent Panel consists consists of one representative each from the United States Soccer Federation and Canadian Soccer Association, as well as one independent representative nominated by the Professional Referee Organization.


Each club is entitled to two unsuccessful appeals per season, including playoffs. Philadelphia have one unsuccessful appeal remaining for the 2018 season.
